MALVIE Magazine – When Images Become Editorials

There are magazines where you submit your photographs, receive a publication and eventually move on.

And then there are magazines that become part of your photographic journey for many years.

For me, the French MALVIE Magazine definitely belongs to the second category.

My first publication with MALVIE appeared in December 2019. What began with that single editorial developed into a collaboration that continues to this day.

By May 2026, 27 of my editorials had been published in the magazine, including several editions featuring one of my photographs on the cover.

And even after so many publications, seeing the finished pages of a magazine still feels special.

When Another Creative Layer Is Added

As photographers, we know our images intimately.

We were there when they were created. We decided on the lighting, composition and perspective, selected the photographs and completed the final post-production.

But when those photographs enter the world of a magazine, something new happens.

Another creative person takes over.

Images are combined, typography is added, pages are designed and individual photographs suddenly become part of a complete visual story.

The creativity of the magazine designer becomes an extension of the creativity of the photographer.

That is one of the things I have always loved about editorial publications.

And then there is something else that a screen can never completely replace: the physical experience of a printed magazine.

Holding your work in your hands, turning the pages and seeing your photographs as part of an entire publication creates a completely different relationship with the images.

Even after all these years, that feeling has never lost its magic for me.

Thank You for So Many Years of Collaboration

A very special thank you goes to Marius Ciobanu, publisher of MALVIE Magazine.

He supported my work very early on, and over the years our collaboration developed into much more than simply sending photographs to a magazine.

There has always been a friendly and uncomplicated personal connection. Whenever there was a question or something needed to be discussed regarding a publication, communication was easy and enjoyable.

So I would like to say this personally:

Thank you, Marius, for your trust, your support, your friendship and for so many years of fantastic collaboration.

Of course, 27 editorials represent much more than 27 publications.

Behind them are numerous photo shoots, models, make-up artists, stylists and creative teams – and every single editorial tells its own story.

Looking at all those MALVIE pages and covers together today, they have almost become a small photographic record of those years.

How Do You Get Published in a Magazine?

One question I am often asked is:

How do you actually get your own editorials published in magazines like these?

One possible way is through the platform Kavyar.

Photographers, models, make-up artists, stylists and other creatives can discover a wide range of international magazines there and find submission calls for upcoming issues.

Of course, submitting an editorial does not automatically mean that it will be accepted. Every magazine has its own style and decides which stories are suitable for a particular issue.

And naturally, you should only submit material for which you have the necessary rights and permissions.

But that is also part of the experience:

create, submit, don’t take rejection personally – and keep going.

Not every story immediately finds the right magazine.

Eventually, however, the right editorial can find exactly the right place.

My collaboration with MALVIE is a wonderful example of what can develop from one single first publication.

December 2019 to May 2026.
27 editorials. Numerous covers.
And above all, many stories, memories and a collaboration for which I am truly grateful.

For photographers and other creatives who would like to explore magazine publication themselves, Kavyar – kavyar.com – is certainly a good place to start.
